Good day every one. Glad you could join us on our weekly journey through the
adventure also known as Provisional League division 3. This week we've
reached Round 7 and a quick glance at the fixture list meant we would have
to reach Manningham if we were to play. So off we went in search of the
delightfully named Timber Ridge Reserve. The ground was bathed in warm
Autumnal sunshine and the view to the city was quite spectacular. Hopefully
the games would match the surroundings. Let's see shall we?

Venue ... Timber Ridge Reserve. (delightful)
            Pitch ... looked pretty good
Weather ... perfect, sunny, not  cloud in the sky.
Canteen ... there was one, but the BYO cheese'n'pickle rolls beat anything
            they had.
            Crowd ... sparse but vocal

First out on the park, as usual, were the Reserves. A number of changes this
week saw Justin dropping back into the team to get some game time, Steve S
was having a week off so Stuart from the U18's was drafted in, Lloydy was in
for the injured Pater Kav and finally Stevie Frantzis was a last minute
inclusion covering the late withdrawal of Bill G. It's difficult to predict
how any team is going to play in our league, and no-one can be
underestimated. So the lads took to the field showing Manningham all due
respect. From the start the home team did look dangerous and it took the
Glen Waverley boys a while to settle.

Still coming to terms with the new system Savvas was trying to employ, the
lads didn't start to get going until the 15th minute. An early chance fell
to Dean who sent a low shot wide. It was the next clear chance though that
got the reward. Sean was sent on his way out wide on the left, he tucked in
nicely and sent a super cross into the far post. Ozzie was loitering with
intent and at the second attempt managed to tuck the ball in for the opening
goal. (note - this was the only goal scored at that end for the whole
afternoon). This settled the nerves, if there were any, but Manningham
fought their way back into the game.

Dan, Tony, Justin and Pete made up a formidable back four and it took a
couple of swift breaks to get through only to be thwarted by young Stuart
Munro in goal. Playing his first competitive game for the reserves, he had
an outstanding game. He made a bit of a hash of clearing a ball on one
occasion but redeemed himself immediately with a superb stop from their
striker. He couldn't do anything with the home side equaliser though.
Getting a soft free-kick on the edge of the box, the Manningham lad placed a
fantastic strike into the top corner of the net. Stuart did manage to get a
finger tip to it, but most keepers would have struggled to keep it out.

In an open game, chances fell at both ends. Ozzie, Sean, Theo and Dean all
had chances and even Lloydy tried to get in on the act. A header by Justin
late in the half was the closest we came to getting our noses in front.

Yureshan was brought on at halftime for Sean and the lads pretty much
carried on where they left off. The second half was played exclusively in
the Manningham half and the pressure was soon rewarded. A corner kick was
floated in by Yure from the left and was flapped at by the keeper. Justin
pounced and there was no doubt where the ball would end up as he hammered
the ball home. Now the lead had been re-established, the lads were keen to
make sure it wouldn't slip. Murray was again the midfield general
controlling everything although probably a little undermanned at times.
Stevie Frantzis came on to much fanfare and showed he'll not be overawed at
this level. Great to see the kids getting their chance. Kon was also
introduced, replacing Pete S at right back and played his part in keeping
the home side at bay. The final whistle and its hats off to the lads on
getting Savvas his first win. Well done boys and special mention to Stuart
            on a man-of-the-match performance.

So would the seniors be inspired by the ressies today? Little were we to
know what would transpire in the second game. For those of a nervous
            disposition, read on ....

            Seniors

It's been suggested that we shouldn't bother with a match report this week
for the seniors. But lads we can't hide from the truth and not even clichés
such as "game of two halves", can shelter us from the 27 minutes of madness
in the second half. So what happened? There will be scalps now red raw with
all the head scratching going on as we try to come to terms with the game.

From the introduction you will gather this routine fixture was not without
incident. For the fourth game in a row Paul named an unchanged line-up, with
only Stevie Wong added to the bench, replacing Justin. The lads were hoping
to get another three points and open up a gap on the bottom sides.

The lads started brightly and Hoppy capped of the blazing start by opening
the scoring in the 6th minute, latching onto a loose ball in the box and
slamming home the opener. This was the catalyst for a 20 minute period of
total domination, resulting in Metin grabbing 2 in quick succession midway
through the half. The home side were in disarray and if Glen Waverley had
not been so friendly in front of goal the game could have (and should have)
            been all over at halftime.

Just ask AC Milan what good a 3-0 lead is if you're not switched on when you
come back out for the second half. We all remember Liverpool and their epic
come back, and credit to Manningham as they came back out with nothing to
lose. The rest they say is history, as they pumped themselves up enough to
get three goals in a 27 minute second half blitz. Mind 2 goals to the prime
candidate for "Prick of the week" were hard to swallow, there was no reason
for him to give Al a love tap on the way back from retrieving the ball from
the net. He might get a nice welcome when we see him at Larpent.

So at 3-3, the Glen Waverley boys did have chances at the end to grab the
three points and one shot that had us all cheering, was cleared off the
line. OK so we didn’t lose, but the feeling in the dressing room was bleak.
This was two points dropped and it hurt. Positives are very hard to find,
but let's remember that the lads are unbeaten in 5 and didn’t lose today.
Still only 2 wins off top spot in a tight league. Days like this weekend
happen and it'll make us appreciate the win, the next time we do. Heads up
off the floor lads, clear the mind and get on with the challenge of giving
Seaford a good touch up next week.
