MEET THE COACHES

Adam 'Hoppy' Hopkins
Seniors Coach

Adam has taken on the role of seniors coach for Season 2011, and is looking forward to the challenge. Interviewed at training on Thursday night, Adam was asked for his thoughts and expectations for the up-coming season. "I am looking forward to an exciting season and the challenges ahead", he said, looking all serious.

Although this is his first coaching position, Adam brings to the club, a long and experienced playing career. Starting at Under 6's and playing through until injury curtailed his playing days last season at the ripe old age of 30. Adam's junior playing days were played out at Moe United, followed by 6 seasons of youth and senior football with Newborough in the Yallourn Valley, enjoying two promotions along the way, from Provy 3, to Provy 1.  He also had one season playing at Morwell Falcons in the NSL youth league. He backed this up by winning Newborough best and fairest at 17.

A relocation up to the city meant a big money transfer and Adam enjoyed another 6 seasons at Boroondara Eagles SC in State league 3. The final playing season of Adam's career was played at Glen Waverley, where his popularity and knowledge of the game ensured the easy transition from player to coach. We wish him well in the new position and assure him of our full support for the upcoming season.

Simon Carroll
Reserves Coach

Simon started a 28 year playing at the ripe old age of 4 3/4, in the Croydon juniors. This is where he remained for most of his junior career, with the exception of a one season sabbatical at Waverley at U15's. However, he soon returned to Croydon which allowed him to experience his first taste of senior football in the Premier league reserve team.

His senior career saw him play for Forest Hill in Provy 1, Mooroolbark in Sate league 2 (winning best and fairest in '94 and '96 along the way), half a season at Knox and finally ending his playing days at Mooroolbark. Simon also had the honour of captaining the Mooroolbark side in the late 90's.

With injuries finally taking their toll, Simon's playing career ended in 2005 after rupturing his Achilles.

Having played under numerous highly credentialed coaches including an ex Celtic player, ex NSL players and ex VPL players, Simon turned his attention to coaching and embarked on this part of his career by coaching the reserves at Monbulk. He also assisted the seniors coach who was none other than ex NSL player Nick van Egmond.

Since Simon has enjoyed coaching, and is interested more in the development of young talent, he accepted the vacant reserves team coaching position at our club. It was clear that he could develop both aspects of his coaching interests. He is keen to develop the pathway for the junior players as they transition to the senior ranks. As well as assisting the senior coach with the planning and strategies needed to ensure the club regains its Provisional league status.

We welcome Simon to the club and encourage all players and supporters to get behind him as we strive to improve our coaching staff.
