Well good people, you bet we'd forgotten all about the matches this week.
Well, that's where you’re wrong. Our guest reporter from the Herald Moon was
kind enough to provide the truth behind the story of the weekend's events.
Read on to find out if he's got what it takes to make it to the top of the
paparazzi.
Round 12 v Brighton
Venue ... Fine and Dendy Park
Weather ... Not too sure, but Hobart was nice.
Reserves
Result ... 2-0
(Halftime score ... 2-0)
Scorers ... Lloydy and Petey
The game started and the boys looked good. With the additions of Steven H,
Guillermo, Chris and El Capitano Pete, the reserves looked to be favourites
from the start. Confident on the ball, Petey and Lloydy were controlling the
midfield. The defense was solid as ever.
It did take a little time for the game to settle into a good pattern as both
teams were battling hard in the middle. Brighton were edging it on points,
but as we all know its goals that count. It was the visitors who opened the
scoring. Halfway through the first half, a well delivered corner from Steven
was smashed in by Lloydy with a beautiful, left foot volley. The goal gave
the lads confidence and they grew stronger as the half continued.
Yureshan has been one of the most consistent performers this season, and
along with Steven H, gave the side width. Exploiting the width, the boys
from the Glen took control and just before halftime they doubled their lead.
Another corner from new recruit Steven and this time it was Petey who got
his head onto it. The ball was cleared off the line but Petey reacted first
and slammed another volley into the net.
The second half started the same way, with both sides struggling to get some
rhythm as they both tried to get the upper hand. Chances were few and far
between from then on. The introduction of Guillermo, Murray and Chris in the
second half made sure the lads had enough fresh legs to preserve the 2 goal
advantage.
So it finished 2-0 and another 3 points in the bag. A great result on the
road on a less than average pitch and the lads maintain their challenge at
the top of table. So with dimsims, dimsims and dimsims in hand, the boys
relaxed and took their seats ready to cheer on the seniors.
Seniors
Result ... 1-4
(Halftime score ... 0-0)
Scorers ... Tony G
At 3:04pm precisely the referee blew his whistle to get the seniors match
underway. Right from the start the seniors looked like they many business
exerting plenty of pressure and moving the ball around well. For the first
15 to 20 minutes the Waverley boys were well on top and in control. Tony G
looked commanding in the back line along with Jules and the ever-dependable
other bloke.
15 minutes in though, things conspired against the lads, when Savva came off
second best in a confrontation with a concrete long-jump run up. Looking
groggier than normal and clutching his bruised ribs, it was the end of the
game for Sav. Dean was sent on to fill the gap. The Waverley boys continued
to give a good account of themselves. Chances were created but went begging.
Greg and Alex both missing golden opportunities. However making chances it
looked like only a matter of time before the deadlock would be broken.
What we didn't reckon on was Micky V getting himself sent off for a "red
mist" moment. A studs up challenge left the ref with no alternative but to
send Micky for an early shower. This proved to be a major turning point as
this allowed Brighton back into the game. The game remained scoreless up to
half time and whilst having their work cut out, the lads were still in it.
The second half started with both teams fairly evenly matched although
Brighton had the numerical (that's my word, Ian wouldn't know what it meant
let alone spell it) advantage. 10 minutes in though, Brighton pinched the
first goal. An un-marked player took his chance to open the scoring. This
lifted the home side and they then piled on the pressure. The second goal
came not long after as another player was allowed the freedom of the pitch
to score. As the Larpent Legends went looking for a goal to get back in the
game, this left them exposed at the back. Outnumbered the visitors conceded
another 2 goals giving the score a bit of a one-sided look.
The last word was left for Tony G as he managed a "constellation" goal.
(editor - the word constilation doesn't exist except in Ian's notes. Any
idea what it means?). Final score ending up 1-4 in favour of the Seasider's.
A slightly flattering score, and could have been different had the Waverley
boys shown a little more discipline.
By all accounts the lads played well up to a point, but need to learn to
finish games off when they're on top. It'll come lads, keep at it and look
forward to getting one back against Seafood.
Thank you to Ian Foster for this week's match reports.
