            Doncaster U18 v Glen Waverley U18

The U18's finally wrapped up the championship today, winning in style at

Doncaster. Goals from familiar faces - Alex, Sam and Matey - sealed a
comfortable 3-1 win. With Oakleigh going down to Eastern Lions, the Glen
Waverley boys finished a healthy 10 points in front with one round to go.
The only question remaining is to see whether the 18's can go through the
season unbeaten, having won 14 and drawing 3 of the matches played so far.

The final round of the season will be at Larpent reserve next Sunday 6th
September at 3:00pm. There will be a spit roast on the day and it would be
good if we could all get down to the ground, support the lads and join in
their celebrations for their championship season.

Well done lads and congratulations from all the players of the Senior and
            Reserve squads.

            26/7/09
            Glen Waverley U18 v Oakleigh U18

            Venue ... Larpent Reserve
            Result ... 2-1
            Scorers ... Kenneth, Sammy.

Before the game Oakleigh were top by one point from Glen Waverley. Basically this game may determine where the champions pennant may rest at the end of the season. Oakleigh drafted in a number of reserves players into their side in a effort to get the result. Bear in mind Oakleigh are a State Premier league club, therefore their reserves play at  far higher level than we do.

Both sides were evenly matched, but Oakleigh were the more organised side. The home team’s effort was based on competitiveness and pace across the park. Most of the clear chances fell to Oakleigh but Kenneth did have one clear run to goal, finally being brought down on the edge of the box. The free kick came to nothing. The score was 0-0 at half-time.

All the scoring came in the second half. Kenneth getting the first and Sam slotting in a well-deserved second from a cross from Kenneth. Driving force in the middle was Matey, who never stopped running and Alex Martin, who was always in the thick of the action. Sam played an exceptional game on the right and was an inspirational leader. Avish in goal was also solid and was unlucky to concede a dubious goal. There was a degree of controversy as it was unclear whether the ball had actually cross the line. The late goal led to a nail-biting last 10 minutes as Oakleigh pressed for the equaliser. All to no avail as the Glen Waverley boys held out.

The final whistle was met with sighs of relief and it was a loud and raucous home changing room that enjoyed the win, the three points and the top of the table spot. Top efforts too by Darren in defence and Gilby and Salvie, both showing what they lack in stature they more than make up for in guts.

Plenty of spirit from the U18’s and looking forward, the seniors and reserves will have bucket loads of talent to call upon in the coming seasons.
